Leave Behind Idea

As I started thinking about ideas for a leave behind piece, I wanted to come up with something that felt authentic to me and to the Lateral Lines brand. Since my work lives at the intersection of design and the outdoors, I started brainstorming ideas that connect to fly fishing, guiding, and handmade craft. My goal is to leave interviewers with something memorable that reflects both my creative work and the experiences that shape my perspective as a designer. I also want to make sure the idea is practical and realistic to produce in multiples without becoming too expensive or time consuming....Like these Yeti mugs I was so tempted to splurge on!

A few different ideas came out of this brainstorming process. One idea is producing custom Lateral Lines hats, with the brand logo on the front and a small hand-tied fly tucked into the hat cord as a subtle nod to fly fishing culture. This hat would have my contact information embroidered into the inside of the hat maybe, or on the back above the ponytail hole. Another concept is to create recycled fly line keychains with a custom engraved recycled tag, turning used fly line into a small functional object that reflects my guiding background and connects to the Lateral Lines brand. I’m also planning to bring branded baked treats packaged in pastry bags or boxes with Lateral Lines stickers, since baking and hospitality have been a big part of my professional life as well. I’m especially interested in the idea of combining these elements into a small handmade leave behind that includes a tied fly and a treat, highlighting the craft and attention to detail that connects design, fly tying, and baking.
